Falling in the Line of Duty: Louisiana State Police Mourns the Loss of St. Tammany Parish Sergeant
It is with great sadness that Sheriff Randy Smith reports that a sergeant with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning. The sergeant was assisting with a pursuit and was deploying a spike strip on Interstate 10 near the Oak Harbor exit when he was struck by the perpetrator’s vehicle and killed.
All perpetrators have been taken into custody. The sergeant’s name is being withheld at this time to allow his family to be notified, and no additional information will be released at this time.
A Hero’s Ultimate Sacrifice
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers and risks that law enforcement officers face every day. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has experienced losses in the line of duty before, including the tragic deaths of Sergeant Linden “Beau” Raimer and Deputy Sheriff Mary Mayo in 2007, as well as Sergeant Louis Henry Wagner, II, who was ambushed and killed in 2015.
The Louisiana State Police and the Department of Public Safety extend their heartfelt condolences to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the sergeant’s family, and loved ones. “We stand with you in mourning the sergeant who made the ultimate sacrifice while courageously serving and protecting others,” said a spokesperson.
A Community in Mourning
The community is in shock and mourning the loss of this brave sergeant. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the sergeant’s family, loved ones, and the entire St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sheriff Randy Smith.
As the investigation continues, the community comes together to support the sergeant’s family and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. The sergeant’s ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the community he served with distinction.
Rest in Peace, Brave Sergeant
May the sacrifice of this brave sergeant never be forgotten, and may his memory continue to inspire us all to serve and protect our communities with courage, honor, and distinction. Rest in peace, brave sergeant. Your legacy will live on forever.
