Pomona Mourns the Tragic Loss of 24-Year-Old Rick Rodriguez in Devastating Wrong-Way Crash on 60 Freeway
Pomona, California—The community is grappling with the tragic loss of Rick Rodriguez, a 24-year-old resident whose life was cut short in a devastating wrong-way collision on the 60 Freeway. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night, has left family, friends, and the broader Pomona community in mourning as they come to terms with this profound loss.
The Incident
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM, Rick Rodriguez was driving his 2013 Honda Accord eastbound in the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, near Reservoir Street in Pomona. This resulted in a head-on collision with a 2018 Honda Civic carrying three occupants: 29-year-old Jazmin Guadalupe Ramos, 39-year-old Raquel Moreno, and 1-year-old Ezra Aziel Espinoza. Tragically, both women were pronounced dead at the scene, and the infant was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County in critical condition. Ezra succumbed to his injuries and was taken off life support on Tuesday morning, March 25.
Following the initial collision, Rodriguez’s vehicle spun out and struck a 2019 Toyota Highlander, resulting in minor injuries to its driver, 47-year-old Veronica Segura of Commerce. Rodriguez sustained severe injuries and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, March 23.
