Heartbreaking Tragedy in Mesquite: 60-Year-Old Wendell Voyles Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck While Riding Bicycle on US Hwy 80

 

 

MESQUITE, TX – The city of Mesquite is mourning the tragic death of 60-year-old Wendell Voyles, who was fatally struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle early in the morning on March 29, 2025. The devastating accident occurred at approximately 5:56 a.m. in the 100 block of US Highway 80 along the north service road.

According to the Mesquite Police Department, first responders arrived at the scene following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they found that a 1998 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck had hit Voyles, leaving him with critical injuries. Despite the immediate efforts of emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities reported that the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed, though officials are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are working to determine if factors such as low visibility, road conditions, or possible driver impairment played a role in the incident.
