Scottsville High School Teacher Kerston Raines Faces Legal Charges and Investigation After Allegedly Exposing Explicit Photos to Student in Classroom Setting

Authorities in Scottsville, Kentucky, are investigating an incident involving 25-year-old Kerston Raines, a teacher at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Raines is accused of showing explicit photographs, reportedly of herself, to a student in the classroom. However, Raines contends that any exposure to such images was unintentional, attributing it to her devices being visible during class activities.

Details of the Incident

The investigation commenced on April 1, 2025, when a student reported that Raines had shown them text messages containing explicit images. Raines acknowledged that the photos were exchanged between her and a male teacher. She explained that students might have inadvertently viewed these images on her laptop, which is synced with her phone and often remains open during class. Additionally, students sometimes use her phone to select music, potentially leading to unintended exposure.

Administrative Actions

In response to the allegations, Allen County Schools Superintendent Travis Hamby stated that Raines has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation. The district is committed to gathering information while respecting the rights and due process of the individuals involved.

Legal Proceedings

Raines was arrested and charged with the distribution of obscene matter to minors, a first offense. She was released after posting 10% of a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Allen District Court.

School District’s Statement

The Allen County School District has expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of student safety and well-being. The district is reviewing its policies regarding the use of personal devices in classrooms and will take appropriate actions based on the investigation’s findings.

Community Impact

This incident has raised significant concerns among parents, students, and community members about boundaries and professionalism within educational settings. The district assures that counseling and support services are available for students affected by the situation. As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
