SMITH COUNTY, MS — The Mississippi community is mourning the tragic loss of 29-year-old Adam Gambrell, a dedicated paramedic with the Mississippi Weather Network (MWN), who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18 in Smith County on April 4, 2025. The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, when a 2004 Freightliner, driven by 61-year-old Roosevelt Newell of Taylorsville, MS, collided with Gambrell’s 2019 Kia Forte, which was traveling westbound on Highway 18. The collision was devastating, and Gambrell, who was known for his service and commitment to public safety, was pronounced dead at the scene. Newell was also injured and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation into the crash continues.
