New Orleans Woman Shot During Early Morning Home Invasion Attempt on Erato Street; Suspect Remains at Large
NEW ORLEANS, LA – April 12, 2025 — A terrifying scene unfolded early Saturday morning when a woman was shot during an attempted home invasion at her residence on Erato Street, prompting an ongoing investigation by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
According to officials, the incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Erato Street. The woman, whose name has not been publicly released, was inside her home when a stranger attempted to force entry into the residence. Witnesses reported hearing loud banging at the door, followed by gunfire.
Police say the victim and other occupants inside the home tried to barricade the door to prevent the intruder from entering. In response, the suspect reportedly fired multiple shots into the home, striking the woman in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.
Emergency medical personnel responded quickly and transported the woman to a nearby hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life-threatening, and she is currently in stable condition, according to officials.
Community Alarmed
Neighbors along Erato Street expressed deep concern following the incident, noting that while the area has seen occasional criminal activity, a violent home invasion attempt is particularly alarming.
“It’s horrifying to think someone could just try to break into your home and shoot like that,” said Tanya Roberts, a nearby resident. “This is a quiet block, and now everyone’s shaken.”
Investigation Ongoing
The NOPD is actively investigating the case and canvassing the area for surveillance footage or witnesses who may have seen the suspect. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Acts of violence that threaten the safety of our residents in their own homes will not be tolerated,” an NOPD spokesperson said in a press release. “We are working diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New Orleans Police Department or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
