Remembering David Buchanon of Eden, Vermont: Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Community Pillar Passes Away at 78

Eden, VT – April 2025 — The close-knit community of Eden is mourning the profound loss of David L. Buchanon, who passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on April 10, 2025. Known for his quiet strength, unwavering values, and generous spirit, David leaves behind a remarkable legacy that continues to inspire everyone who knew him.

A Life of Humble Integrity

Born on March 4, 1947, in Lamoille County, Vermont, David was the son of the late Howard and Margaret Buchanon. He was a lifelong resident of Eden and spent most of his years working the land he loved, either as a farmer or assisting neighbors with construction and mechanical repairs. His hands were calloused with honest work, and his heart was always open to others.

David was the type of man who showed up without being asked — whether to fix a broken well in the middle of winter or to quietly leave firewood at the door of a struggling neighbor. He believed in the power of community and lived that belief every day of his life.

“He didn’t need recognition,” said family friend Ben Carver. “David gave to people because it was right — not because he expected anything back.”

A Devoted Family Man

David is survived by his three loving children: Michael Buchanon and his wife Kendra of Stowe, Lisa Buchanon-Lang and her husband Travis Lang of Eden, and Catherine Buchanon-Wells and her husband Gregory Wells of Morrisville.

He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Eli, Sophie, Jackson, Miles, and Hannah, all of whom adored their “Papa David” and will forever carry his lessons in their hearts.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Margaret “Maggie” Buchanon, who passed in 2018. The couple shared a quiet, enduring love that stood as an example of patience, commitment, and deep mutual respect.

The Buchanon family expressed their gratitude in a written tribute:

“We have lost a father, a grandfather, and a role model — but we were so lucky to have had him. His strength, loyalty, and kindness will guide us for the rest of our lives. We are deeply grateful to our friends, neighbors, and extended community for your support.”

Community Impact and Remembrance

David was more than just a family man — he was an integral part of the Eden community. He volunteered for the Eden Fire Department in his younger years and helped organize the annual Maple Festival Fundraiser for over two decades. He could often be found chatting quietly at the local general store, always offering a respectful nod and a few thoughtful words.

“He was the thread that stitched this town together,” said Pastor Rachel Simons of Eden Community Church. “He didn’t say much — but when he did, people listened. And when he helped, people remembered.”

Funeral Arrangements

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eden Community Church, located at 112 Church Street, Eden, VT. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall, where friends and family will gather to share memories and honor his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morrisville.

In Lieu of Flowers

In keeping with David’s generous and practical nature, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to:

  • Eden Fire Department
  • Lamoille County Humane Society
  • Meals on Wheels of Lamoille County

His family hopes these donations will continue the spirit of service and compassion that David lived by every day.

David L. Buchanon’s presence will be dearly missed, but his legacy — one of humility, quiet strength, and kindness — will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. May he rest peacefully beside his beloved Maggie.
