Tragic Drive-By Shooting in Pueblo Claims Life of 19-Year-Old Michael James Suazo, Two Others Injured as Police Launch Urgent Investigation into Deadly Attack

PUEBLO, COLORADO — April 12, 2025 — The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the young man who tragically lost his life in a recent drive-by shooting that also left two others wounded. The victim, 19-year-old Michael James Suazo, was a resident of Pueblo. He succumbed to his injuries after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds during the violent attack.

The Incident

The shooting occurred earlier this week in a residential neighborhood on Pueblo’s East Side, sending shockwaves through the community. Authorities responded to multiple reports of gunfire around the 1200 block of East 11th Street shortly after 9:00 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

While the other two victims, both in their early 20s, were rushed to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover, Suazo was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Parkview Medical Center.

Investigation Underway

Pueblo Police confirmed that the shooting was carried out in a drive-by fashion, with witnesses reporting a dark-colored vehicle fleeing the scene immediately after the shots were fired. Detectives are now working tirelessly to piece together surveillance footage, gather eyewitness statements, and identify any suspects involved.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not disclosed a potential motive. However, they believe the shooting may have been targeted rather than random, though this remains unconfirmed.

Community Response

The tragic death of Michael Suazo has left his family, friends, and neighbors devastated. Vigils have already begun forming, with candles, flowers, and messages of remembrance placed near the site of the shooting.

“Michael was just starting his adult life,” said a family friend. “He was kind-hearted, full of energy, and always looking out for others. His life was cut short far too soon.”

Local leaders and community organizers have also voiced concern over the rise in gun violence in the region. “This senseless act has rocked our community,” said Pueblo Mayor Nick Gradisar. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Suazo family and are committed to working alongside law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”

The Pueblo Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Pueblo Crime Stoppers at (719) 542-STOP (7867).
