Shooting on Eastbound I-94 Leaves Two Young Men Critically Injured; Freeway Remains Closed as Investigation Continues

April 26, 2025 — St. Clair Shores, MI

A heavy police presence and major traffic disruption gripped eastbound I-94 near 10 Mile Road Saturday afternoon after a violent freeway shooting left two young men critically injured. The Saint Clair Shores Police Department responded swiftly to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire on the freeway at approximately 12:55 p.m.

Responding officers quickly located a vehicle pulled over on the side of the freeway, where they discovered two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was immediately requested, with Saint Clair Shores Fire Department units rushing to the scene under emergency status.

The victims, identified only as an approximately 19-year-old male and an approximately 18-year-old male, were both listed as priority one patients — the highest classification of trauma emergencies — and transported urgently to St. John’s Moross Hospital.

  • The 19-year-old victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the back and leg.
  • The 18-year-old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the arm and back.

Authorities described their conditions as critical upon arrival at the hospital. Updates on their current status have not been released as of press time.

Michigan State Police have since taken over the investigation and are working to piece together the events that led to the brazen daylight shooting. At this time, no suspect description has been provided, and investigators have not publicly identified a motive. Officials confirmed that multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene, suggesting a high number of shots were fired.

The eastbound side of I-94 remains completely closed between 9 Mile and 11 Mile as forensic teams work to document the scene, gather evidence, and reconstruct the moments leading up to the shooting. Drivers have been forced to exit the freeway at 10 Mile, causing significant congestion on surrounding surface streets.

“We understand the inconvenience this has caused to motorists, but the freeway will remain closed until our investigators have completed their work,” a Michigan State Police spokesperson said during a brief media statement. “We ask for the public’s patience and, more importantly, for any witnesses to come forward.”

Witnesses who were on the freeway during the incident are being urged to contact Michigan State Police or Crime Stoppers if they have any information or dashcam footage that may assist in identifying the shooter.

The incident has shocked local residents and reignited conversations about freeway safety and public gun violence. “It’s terrifying to think you can be driving to work or school and get caught in something like this,” said Michelle Adams, a nearby resident who heard the sirens flood the area.

Authorities are working around the clock to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, and that the victims’ families receive the answers they deserve.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
