MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A late-night disturbance in Myrtle Beach turned tragic Saturday, leading to an officer-involved shooting that left one young man dead and at least eleven others injured, authorities confirmed Sunday morning.

According to a statement released by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), an investigation is now underway into the deadly encounter that unfolded just before midnight along the busy 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard, a popular area typically bustling with visitors and locals.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on April 26, 2025, officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) responded to reports of a disturbance involving multiple individuals. Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene in which an individual was observed discharging a firearm.

In response, an MBPD officer fired their service weapon, striking the suspect.

The individual shot was later identified as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis, a resident of Bennettsville, South Carolina. Despite immediate medical attention, Davis succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said.

Multiple Injuries Reported

In addition to the fatal shooting, authorities confirmed that eleven other individuals were injured during the disturbance. Details regarding the nature and severity of their injuries have not been released, but all injured parties are receiving treatment at local medical facilities.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured, according to police reports. Authorities have not disclosed whether any other law enforcement personnel were harmed during the confrontation.

Investigation Underway

The Myrtle Beach Police Department requested that SLED — the agency responsible for investigating officer-involved shootings in South Carolina — lead an independent inquiry into the incident.

SLED agents spent much of Sunday morning processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and collecting available surveillance and cellphone footage. Investigators have urged anyone who witnessed the event or has relevant video evidence to contact SLED or the Myrtle Beach Police Department directly at 843-918-1382.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. No charges have been announced as of Sunday afternoon.

Public Response and Traffic Reopened

Following the incident, parts of North Ocean Boulevard were temporarily closed to traffic as authorities conducted their investigation. Full access to the area was restored by early Sunday morning.

In a public statement posted to social media, the Myrtle Beach Police Department offered condolences to all affected by the shooting, stating:

“The Myrtle Beach Police Department offers its prayers and deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this incident. We are committed to working with SLED and our community as we seek answers in the days ahead.”

City officials have not announced whether additional public safety measures will be implemented in the wake of the shooting.

A Community Shaken

The tragic events come during a time when Myrtle Beach — known for its tourism and vibrant beachfront — typically prepares for an influx of visitors ahead of the summer season.

Local leaders and residents have expressed sorrow and concern following the violence, emphasizing the need for calm and community support as the investigation proceeds.

Further updates are expected from SLED and the Myrtle Beach Police Department as new information becomes available.
