April 26, 2025 — Princeton, New Jersey

The Princeton University community is grappling with profound grief following the tragic death of Lauren Blackburn, a bright and promising member of the Class of 2026, whose body was found Friday morning at Lake Carnegie.

Lauren had been missing since the evening of April 19, last seen near the Firestone Library, a place she often visited to study and reflect. In the days that followed, friends, classmates, faculty, and volunteers rallied in the search for her, clinging to hope. That hope turned to heartbreak when search crews discovered her body in the waters of Lake Carnegie, just a short distance from campus.

University officials confirmed the devastating news with a heavy-hearted statement:

“Our hearts are heavy and we share our deepest condolences with Lauren’s family and friends.”

The cause of Lauren’s death has not been released, and authorities are continuing their investigation. There is no immediate indication of foul play.

Lauren Blackburn was known across campus for her compassion, her sharp intellect, and her vibrant spirit. Friends describe her as someone who made every space she entered a little brighter — a devoted friend, a curious scholar, and a person of quiet but powerful kindness. Whether through her leadership in campus organizations, her thoughtful participation in classroom discussions, or her willingness to support her peers, Lauren made a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

“She was one of those people who you could talk to for five minutes and feel like you’d known forever,” one of her classmates shared. “She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued.”

In moments of profound loss, the strength of a community is often found in the quiet acts of remembrance, reflection, and shared grief. Today, Princeton stands together, mourning the loss of one of its own — a student who embodied so much of what the university strives to be.

Lauren Blackburn’s light touched many lives in her short time at Princeton, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

Rest in peace, Lauren. You will be deeply missed.
