ISLAND PARK, ID — Heartbreaking Head-On Collision Near Henrys Lake Claims Seven Lives, Including 25-Year-Old Isaih Moreno
A devastating tragedy unfolded on the evening of Thursday, April 24, 2025, near the scenic Henrys Lake area in Island Park, Idaho, when a violent head-on collision claimed the lives of seven people. The crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 20 near mile marker 399 — a stretch of road frequented by both locals and tourists heading to Yellowstone National Park.
Authorities with the Idaho State Police confirmed on Friday that the multi-fatality crash involved two vehicles that collided under fiery circumstances, erupting into a blaze that made rescue efforts difficult and traumatic for first responders. The victims, all pronounced dead at the scene, were reportedly traveling in opposite directions at the time of the crash.
One of the deceased has been identified as Isaih Moreno, a 25-year-old man whose sudden and tragic passing has sent shockwaves through his community. Friends and loved ones describe Moreno as a kind-hearted and driven young man who had an infectious energy and a strong devotion to family and friends. His death, officials say, has been particularly difficult for those who knew him personally.
According to preliminary reports from investigators, the crash involved a pickup truck carrying five people and a passenger vehicle occupied by two individuals. Investigators believe one of the vehicles crossed the center line and struck the other at high speed. The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire, with flames spreading quickly and preventing rescue attempts. Despite the rapid response of Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies, fire crews, and Idaho State Police troopers, all occupants were lost in the fire.
“This is one of the most catastrophic crashes we’ve seen in recent memory,” said Idaho State Police spokesperson Sgt. Mark Collins. “The impact, followed by the intensity of the fire, left little chance for survival.”
Emergency responders spent hours extinguishing the blaze and documenting the scene, which remained closed well into the night as investigators worked to identify the victims and notify their families. Dental records and DNA testing are expected to be used to confirm the identities of the remaining victims.
Isaih Moreno’s family, speaking through a statement issued Friday, expressed their profound grief. “Isaih was a son, a brother, and a light in the lives of everyone he met. We are devastated. There are no words that can describe this loss.”
Counseling services and grief support have been offered to family members, first responders, and community members struggling to process the enormity of the tragedy. Local churches and community organizations have also stepped in to organize vigils and memorials in honor of the victims.
The area where the crash occurred is a scenic and heavily traveled corridor during spring and summer months, especially as visitors make their way toward Yellowstone. Officials are urging drivers to use caution and remain attentive, particularly on narrow or rural highways where visibility and conditions can quickly shift.
The Idaho State Police have launched a full investigation into the crash, including potential factors such as speed, visibility, road conditions, and whether impairment or distraction played a role. Toxicology tests are being conducted as part of the standard post-crash procedure.
As the investigation continues and families mourn, the community of Island Park and beyond is left reeling from a loss that has touched countless lives. A memorial for all seven victims is expected to be planned in the coming weeks, as families and friends unite in remembrance of those lost far too soon.
