Tragedy in Roanoke: Father and Son Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide at Allen Street Home, Authorities Investigating Motive

A quiet evening in the small town of Roanoke was shattered Thursday night when a tragic shooting left two men dead in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The incident took place in the Crestwood Addition neighborhood, located in the southeastern part of the town.

According to a statement from the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a 911 call shortly after 9 p.m. on May 1. The caller reported gunshots inside a residence located on Allen Street, prompting an immediate response from deputies and emergency medical personnel.

Upon arrival, officers entered the home and found two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from first responders, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not yet been publicly released, pending notification of their families. However, investigators have confirmed that the men knew each other and that the shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute that escalated violently.

Initial evidence gathered at the scene, combined with witness statements, suggests one of the men fatally shot the other before turning the weapon on himself. Authorities have not disclosed who placed the 911 call or whether any other individuals were present in the home at the time of the shooting.

“This is a heartbreaking event for the families involved and the entire Roanoke community,” Huntington County Sheriff Chris Newton said in a press release Friday morning. “Our deputies are working diligently with state investigators to piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragedy.”

Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, describing the area as peaceful and tight-knit. “It’s just really hard to believe something like this could happen right down the street,” said Jennifer Allen, a nearby resident. “Everyone here knows each other. We’re all just in disbelief.”

Police have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the scene has been secured. An autopsy for both victims is scheduled to be conducted in Fort Wayne, with results expected in the coming days.

The case remains under active investigation by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the incident or the individuals involved to come forward.

Counseling services are being made available to the community, and local officials are encouraging residents to check in on one another as the town grieves this unexpected and tragic loss.
