Tulsa, OK — Chaos Erupts in Downtown Entertainment District as Midnight Shooting Leaves One Dead, Multiple Injured

TULSA, Okla. — What started as a typical bustling Saturday night in Tulsa’s vibrant downtown entertainment district quickly turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy, as a deadly shooting broke out just after midnight near 2nd Street and Elgin Avenue, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the popular nightlife area shortly after 12:10 a.m. on May 4, 2025, following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the vicinity of bars and clubs frequented by weekend crowds. Upon arrival, they encountered a large, panicked group of bystanders and multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to early reports from Tulsa police, the violence stemmed from a verbal altercation between two groups that quickly escalated. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with shouting, pushing, and then gunfire erupting as people fled for cover.

One Person Killed, Several Injured

One victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services rushed several other injured individuals to nearby hospitals. Police confirmed that at least three others sustained gunshot wounds, with two listed in serious condition and one in stable condition as of Sunday morning.

Law enforcement officials say the shooting occurred directly in front of several late-night venues and restaurants. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from local businesses and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact sequence of events.

Several witnesses described the terror of the moment, saying the once-joyful atmosphere quickly gave way to panic. “It went from people dancing and laughing to people screaming and ducking for cover,” said Alyssa Monroe, who was inside a bar nearby. “We heard four or five shots, and then everybody ran. It was terrifying.”

Another bystander, Travis Mendez, said he saw one person fall to the ground as others fled. “The scene was just unbelievable. One minute you’re enjoying a night out, and the next you’re fearing for your life.”

City leaders and local activists responded with sadness and frustration. Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum released a statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family and pledging support for a thorough investigation.

Community groups are calling for enhanced safety measures in the downtown area, including better lighting, more security patrols, and additional outreach to address conflict resolution among young adults and partygoers.
