Blue Island Police and FBI Investigate Armed Robbery of Loomis Armored Truck at U.S. Bank, Suspects Still at Large

BLUE ISLAND, IL – A daring robbery at the U.S. Bank branch on Western Avenue in Blue Island has prompted a multi-agency investigation following the theft of cash from an armored vehicle Friday afternoon. Police and the FBI are working together to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the heist.

At approximately 4:25 p.m. on May 2, 2025, three male offenders executed a well-coordinated robbery on a Loomis Armored Services truck as its crew was in the process of transferring money at the U.S. Bank, located at 11960 Western Avenue in Blue Island, a city located on the southwest side of Chicago.

According to Blue Island police, the suspects, described as black males in their late teens to mid-20s, confronted the armored truck crew outside the bank. The offenders are reported to have used force to overpower the crew and steal a significant amount of money. The robbers quickly fled the scene, leaving no immediate clues to their identities.

The suspects are said to have medium builds and were dressed in dark-colored sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts. They also wore black facial coverings and light gray gloves, suggesting they had planned the robbery meticulously to avoid being identified by security cameras or witnesses.

The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, in coordination with local Blue Island police officers, responded to the scene shortly after the robbery was reported. Authorities have been gathering evidence, reviewing surveillance footage from the bank, and conducting interviews with witnesses in an effort to piece together details about the suspects and their getaway.

The robbery occurred in broad daylight, causing alarm among local residents and businesses in the area. Several businesses near the bank were evacuated during the initial stages of the investigation to ensure public safety and to preserve any potential evidence.

“We are working diligently to identify these suspects and bring them to justice,” said Blue Island Police Chief James Hartman. “Our officers are collaborating with federal agents to ensure a swift resolution to this crime. We’re asking anyone with information about the robbery or who may have seen anything unusual in the area at the time to contact us immediately.”

While the suspects are still at large, authorities believe the robbery may have been a part of a larger series of similar heists in the region. The FBI is reviewing whether there are connections between this robbery and other recent incidents involving armored truck thefts in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Residents in the Blue Island area are urged to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity. Local police are offering a reward for information leading to the capture of the suspects. The FBI has also encouraged individuals with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit anonymous tips online.

Meanwhile, Loomis Armored Services, which operates the trucks involved in the robbery, has confirmed that all crew members were unharmed during the incident. The company has expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their rapid response and continues to cooperate fully with the investigation.

“We’re grateful that none of our team members were injured during this robbery, but this remains a serious crime, and we are committed to assisting the authorities in any way we can,” said Loomis spokesperson, Laura Chavez.

Authorities are hoping that the investigation will soon yield new information leading to the suspects’ apprehension. In the meantime, law enforcement is urging anyone who might have witnessed the robbery or who may have captured relevant footage on dash cams or security cameras to come forward.

The investigation into this brazen robbery continues, with police vowing to spare no effort in tracking down those responsible for the crime.
