FedEx Delivery Turns Chaotic in College Station: Man Pistol-Whipped After Alleged Assault on Woman Sparks Armed Confrontation
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A routine package delivery turned into a dramatic and violent confrontation in a quiet College Station neighborhood last Friday, resulting in serious criminal charges against two men, one of whom is affiliated with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. The altercation, which took place near Lawyer Place and Shadowwood Drive, involved a FedEx delivery driver, a local resident, and her husband—who allegedly responded to the incident with a drawn handgun.
Authorities say the incident began early Friday afternoon when John Weldon Cabrera, 30, was delivering packages on Shadowwood Drive. While temporarily blocking the roadway with his FedEx truck, Cabrera became involved in an escalating dispute with a female driver who was reportedly frustrated by the obstruction.
According to a police report obtained by KBTX, the woman began honking her horn to signal Cabrera to move his vehicle. The situation grew tense when she exited her car and began using her phone to take photos of both the FedEx truck and Cabrera himself. Cabrera reportedly told police that he had no problem with the woman photographing his delivery vehicle, but he took offense when she began photographing him personally.
He admitted to confronting her and demanding she stop, but things quickly escalated further. Witnesses told police that Cabrera chased the woman, grabbed her from behind, and forcefully threw her to the ground. A bystander intervened and told Cabrera to stop and leave her alone. After the incident, Cabrera returned to his vehicle and drove away from the scene.
The woman later reported that she had suffered injuries during the confrontation. However, Cabrera denied assaulting her, telling officers he only tried to retrieve her phone in an effort to delete the photos she had taken of him.
What followed was an even more violent confrontation.
According to investigators, shortly after the initial incident, the woman’s husband—identified as Kevin Brummet, 54—used his pickup truck to block the FedEx vehicle Cabrera was driving. This occurred nearby on Lawyer Place. Witnesses described Brummet approaching Cabrera’s vehicle with a handgun visibly drawn. Police say Brummet then forcibly pulled Cabrera from the truck by his hair, punched him repeatedly, and pistol-whipped him during the altercation.
The aggressive response resulted in Cabrera sustaining injuries that required medical attention. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation before being transported to the Brazos County Detention Center.
Cabrera has since been released on a $4,000 bond and is formally charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Brummet, meanwhile, faces the more serious charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony offense. He was released from custody on a $10,000 bond. According to public records, Brummet is affiliated with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, though the university has not issued a public comment regarding the incident.
The violent chain of events has raised concerns in the community about escalating confrontations, the role of firearms in neighborhood disputes, and the responsibilities of both civilians and service workers in de-escalating tense situations.
College Station Police say the investigation remains active, and more charges could be filed depending on the outcome of further witness interviews and the review of security footage from nearby residences.
Officials are urging residents to contact the police with any additional information, particularly if they have video or audio recordings of either altercation.
