ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — North County Community Devastated as 11-Year-Old Boy Identified as Marshaun “Legend” Futrell Jr. Fatally Shot; Police Investigate Tragic Loss of Life Amid Youth Gun Violence Crisis
A tragic shooting in St. Louis County has left a community in mourning after an 11-year-old boy was fatally wounded Monday evening in a residential neighborhood. The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is leading an active and ongoing investigation into the heartbreaking incident.
At approximately 8:14 p.m. on May 5, 2025, officers from the North County Precinct responded to an emergency call reporting a shooting in the 1800 block of Longford Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a young boy, later identified as Marshaun Futrell Jr., suffering from a gunshot wound. Known affectionately by his family and friends as “Legend,” the 11-year-old was rushed by emergency responders to a nearby hospital.
Despite efforts from medical teams to save his life, Marshaun was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves throughout the neighborhood and the greater St. Louis area, where community members, school officials, and local leaders are grappling with another tragic instance of youth gun violence that has cut a young life short far too soon.
Detectives with the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons immediately took over the investigation, securing the scene and interviewing potential witnesses.
