Postal Worker Arrested After Brutal Attack on 10-Year-Old Girl at Cleveland Elementary School
CLEVELAND, OHIO – An arrest warrant has been issued for Delilah Cross, a U.S. Postal Service worker, after she was caught on video allegedly attacking a 10-year-old girl at Ben Franklin Elementary School on September 23, 2024. The disturbing incident occurred in broad daylight, moments after students were released for the day.
According to reports from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Police Department, the altercation began when Cross’s daughter attacked the young girl while she was walking to the school bus. The victim told officers that Cross’s daughter hit her with a book bag, prompting the girl’s mother, Delilah Cross, to intervene.
Witnesses report that Cross, who was off-duty but still wearing her postal uniform, joined the altercation, calling the victim derogatory names and physically pushing her to the ground. The impact caused the young girl to hit her head on a nearby tree. A responding officer noted that the young girl appeared to be injured, and Cross’s involvement escalated the situation to a physical confrontation.
The incident was captured on cellphone video and quickly spread online, sparking public outrage. Initially, no charges were filed, but after WOIO’s news report brought the incident to light, an arrest warrant was issued for Cross.
Delilah Cross is now facing multiple misdemeanor charges, including two counts of assault, endangering a child, criminal activity on school property, and delinquency of a child. School district officials acknowledged the mishandling of the case, noting that it was mistakenly sent to the county prosecutor’s office instead of the Cleveland City Prosecutor’s Office. The district has since credited the news coverage for drawing attention to the case and prompting action.
A U.S. Postal Inspector clarified that the incident is a matter for local law enforcement, as Cross was off the clock at the time of the altercation. However, her position as a postal worker has added further complexity to the situation.
As the investigation continues, the Cleveland community remains shocked by the actions of an individual who was expected to uphold a level of professionalism, particularly in a setting as vulnerable as a school. The arrest warrant for Delilah Cross raises questions about accountability and the consequences of violent actions, even outside of one’s professional responsibilities.
The case remains under investigation, and local authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward as they prepare to move forward with the charges.
