Roanoke, VA — May 10, 2025

Roanoke police are actively searching for 28-year-old Thomas Delp, who has been identified as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Hunter Orlando. The deadly incident took place late Friday night, sending shockwaves through the local community and leaving family and friends devastated.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Westside Boulevard NW around 11:45 p.m. Friday after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area. When police arrived, they found Orlando suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators quickly gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses, leading them to identify Delp as the suspect. Police say Delp fled the scene shortly after the shooting and is believed to be armed and dangerous. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Background and Community Reaction

Hunter Orlando, a lifelong Roanoke resident, was described by family and friends as a kind-hearted, hardworking young man who loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting and fishing. His tragic death has left the community in mourning, with many expressing disbelief and heartbreak over the sudden loss.

“He was always smiling, always there to help you out,” said longtime friend Alex McGuire. “I can’t believe he’s gone. This is just senseless violence.”

Orlando’s family has asked for privacy as they grieve but released a short statement through the Roanoke Police Department:

“Hunter was loved deeply by his family and friends. We are heartbroken by this tragedy and ask for prayers during this time of immense loss.”

Search for the Suspect

Roanoke police are urging the public to come forward with any information about Delp’s whereabouts. They describe Delp as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 190 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and may be driving a silver 2015 Honda Civic with Virginia license plates.

“We are asking the community to remain vigilant,” said Roanoke Police Chief Samuel Hardy during a Saturday afternoon press conference. “Do not approach Thomas Delp if you see him. He is considered armed and dangerous. Instead, call 911 or the Roanoke Police tip line immediately.”

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the shooting, though preliminary reports suggest the two men may have known each other and that the incident could have stemmed from a personal dispute. Police have not yet confirmed additional details.

Call for Help and Public Safety Reminder

In light of this violent crime, police are also reminding residents to prioritize their safety and report any suspicious activity. Patrols have been increased in the Westside Boulevard area, and local businesses are being urged to review their security footage for any possible sightings of Delp.

“We want to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to locate Mr. Delp and bring him to justice,” Chief Hardy added. “But we need the public’s help. If you know something, say something.”
