Tragedy on I-37: Beloved 29-Year-Old Kimberly Flores Killed in Early Morning Crash That Shocks South Texas Community

South Texas – May 13, 2025 — A quiet stretch of Interstate 37 was the scene of heartbreaking tragedy early Tuesday morning when 29-year-old Kimberly Flores lost her life in a violent single-vehicle crash that has rocked her family, friends, and the South Texas community.

According to the Texas Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred just before 4:30 a.m. near mile marker 52, approximately 15 miles north of the town of Three Rivers. Flores was reportedly driving alone in the southbound lanes when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of her vehicle. The car veered off the highway, slammed into a guardrail, and overturned multiple times before coming to rest in a grassy median.

First responders from Live Oak County and local EMS crews were dispatched to the scene within minutes of a passerby’s 911 call. Despite life-saving efforts, Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that Kimberly was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, a factor they say may have contributed to the severity of her injuries. Troopers also noted that the weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the accident, ruling out inclement weather as a contributing factor.

A Life Cut Short

Kimberly Flores was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend who had dreams of launching her own business. Friends describe her as a kind-hearted, vibrant woman known for her infectious laugh and compassion for others. She had recently moved back to South Texas to be closer to family after spending several years living in San Antonio, where she worked in marketing and design.

“She had so much life ahead of her,” said Maria Chavez, a childhood friend who spoke tearfully at a roadside vigil that sprang up near the crash site just hours after the news broke. “She was working so hard to build something for herself. It’s hard to believe she’s really gone.”

Ongoing Investigation

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Officials say toxicology results are pending, which could take several weeks. At this time, there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role, but investigators have not ruled out fatigue or distracted driving as possible causes.

The vehicle, a silver 2016 Nissan Altima, sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene as authorities conducted a full accident reconstruction. Surveillance cameras from nearby highway service facilities are also being reviewed for any clues that may explain what happened in the moments before the fatal crash.

Community in Mourning

News of Kimberly’s death has rippled through the South Texas region, where she was well-known through school, church, and community activities. A memorial service is being planned by her family, who have asked for privacy as they process this profound loss.

Online tributes have begun pouring in, with many sharing heartfelt memories and photos of Kimberly during happier times. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by family friends to help cover funeral costs and support the Flores family during this devastating time.

“We are heartbroken,” the campaign page reads. “Kimberly was a light in our lives. Her smile, her energy, her kindness – all unforgettable. Please help us honor her memory.”

A Tragic Reminder

The fatal crash that took Kimberly’s life serves as yet another grim reminder of how quickly life can be altered—or lost—on the road. Texas authorities are urging drivers to take extra precautions, especially in the early morning hours when fatigue and decreased visibility can make driving more dangerous.

“Our hearts go out to the Flores family,” said Sgt. Daniel Guerra of the Texas Highway Patrol. “This tragedy underscores the importance of buckling up and staying alert behind the wheel. One moment of distraction or tiredness can have irreversible consequences.”

As investigators continue their work and the community begins to grieve, Kimberly Flores will be remembered not just for the tragic way she died, but for the beautiful, kind-hearted, and ambitious woman she was in life.
