Aurora Teen Gunned Down on Metropolitan Street: 17-Year-Old Fatally Shot as Police Launch Urgent Homicide Investigation and Community Calls for Justice

 

 

AURORA, Ill. (May 20, 2025) — A community is reeling after a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot on Monday evening in Aurora, marking another tragic loss of young life to gun violence. The Aurora Police Department is actively investigating the deadly incident, which unfolded just after 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Metropolitan Street.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:33 p.m. following reports of gunfire in the area. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered the teenage victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid before paramedics transported the teen to Rush Copley Medical Center. Despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, the young man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

As of Tuesday morning, the victim’s identity has not been publicly released, pending family notification. His age and the circumstances surrounding the shooting have prompted a strong response from both law enforcement and community leaders, who are calling for calm and cooperation as the investigation moves forward.
