Faithful to the End: Beloved Bible Teacher Kay Arthur Passes Into Glory, Leaving a Global Legacy of Scripture and Discipleship
CHATTANOOGA, TN – The global Christian community is mourning the loss of a spiritual giant as Kay Arthur, beloved Bible teacher, author, and co-founder of Precept Ministries International, has gone home to be with the Lord. Arthur passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and decades of transformational ministry rooted in God’s Word.
In a heartfelt statement released by her son, the Precept family was informed of Kay’s passing with both sorrow and joy: “My mother, Kay Arthur, has gone home. I have so much joy knowing she is with the Lord and my father, Jack, in heaven. And yet, how deeply she is already missed—by her family, her friends, the Precept staff, and by you and the people around the world who learned with and from her.”
Kay Arthur’s journey of faith began in earnest in 1963, when she surrendered her life to Christ. From that moment forward, she dedicated herself wholly to His calling—first as a missionary, and later as a pioneering Bible teacher and author who would go on to shape the lives of millions. She and her husband, Jack Arthur, founded Precept Ministries in 1970 with the vision of equipping people around the world to study the Bible for themselves and grow in their relationship with God.
For over five decades, Kay Arthur became a trusted and beloved voice in Christian discipleship. Her teachings—grounded in careful, inductive Bible study—resonated with believers from every background, age, and walk of life. Whether leading in-depth studies or speaking at conferences, her passion for Scripture and her love for people shone through. Her books and Bible study materials, translated into nearly 100 languages, have reached over 180 countries.
“Kay was more than a teacher—she was a mentor to many, a friend to countless, and a spiritual mother to generations,” said a statement from the Precept Ministries leadership. “Her life was marked by authenticity, humility, and a relentless pursuit of truth. Her voice taught many how to hear God’s voice through His Word.”
The loss is felt deeply within the Precept staff and its global network of leaders, volunteers, and students. Yet even in this moment of grief, the message from Kay’s family is one of enduring hope.
“My mom gave her all to Him,” her son wrote. “She moved wherever He called her to be, which meant serving as a missionary and learning to lead and write Bible studies. She was deeply passionate about the mission of Precept because she loved God’s Word. It was her life.”
Though Kay is now gone, her impact continues. The ministry she co-founded remains committed to its mission of engaging people in relationship with God through knowing His Word. “My parents may have started Precept,” her son continued, “but God has always had bigger plans for this ministry, far beyond what we ever dreamed.”
Tributes have poured in from around the world—pastors, teachers, former students, and everyday believers sharing stories of how Kay’s teaching brought clarity to Scripture and brought them closer to God. The ministry is planning several memorials and opportunities for the public to honor her life in the coming weeks.
As the Precept family grieves, they hold tight to the promises of Scripture. In his closing words, Kay’s son shared a passage from 1 Corinthians 15:56-58, a scripture that perfectly encapsulates her life of purpose and passion:
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:56-58 (ESV)
Kay Arthur’s legacy is not just written in the pages of the books she authored or the global ministry she helped build—it is etched into the lives of those she discipled, inspired, and loved. And through them, her voice will continue to echo across generations, always pointing to the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
Precept Ministries International is inviting those impacted by Kay’s ministry to share their memories, testimonies, and prayers on its website as a way to celebrate her life and the enduring hope found in Christ.
