9-Year-Old Boy Killed in St. Louis Road Rage Shooting; Brother and Father Injured as Gunman Remains at Large

St. Louis, MO – May 25, 2025 — A heartbreaking act of road rage violence shattered a quiet Saturday night in North City St. Louis, claiming the life of a 9-year-old boy and leaving two others injured, including his older brother and father. The tragedy unfolded around 9:00 p.m. on May 24, 2025, near the intersection of Bircher Boulevard and Lillian Avenue.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the victims were a family of six—two parents and four young children—who were simply trying to make their way home when their vehicle was targeted in a senseless and unprovoked shooting.

A Family’s Peaceful Evening Turns to Horror

Inside the car were 9-year-old Jordan Neal, his 10-year-old brother Richard Neal III, an 8-year-old sibling, a 4-year-old sister, and their parents. The family had been traveling together when a red 2004 four-door Nissan Altima with tinted windows reportedly cut them off in traffic.

Moments later, without warning, someone in the suspect vehicle opened fire.

Multiple shots were fired into the family’s vehicle. When the gunfire ended, the aftermath was devastating:

  • Jordan Neal, 9, was gravely wounded and later died from his injuries.
  • Richard Neal III, 10, sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
  • The father, whose name has not yet been publicly released, was also shot and is currently in stable condition.

The mother and the couple’s 4-year-old daughter miraculously escaped physical injury but were left deeply traumatized by the horrific ordeal.

Suspect Remains at Large

The red Nissan Altima fled the scene immediately after the shooting, and as of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made. Authorities are now turning to the public for help in tracking down those responsible for this brutal crime.

Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Division are working tirelessly to gather leads, review surveillance footage, and interview potential witnesses. Investigators believe someone in the community knows something that could bring justice to this grieving family.

“This was a cowardly and heartless act that has devastated an innocent family,” said a spokesperson for the department. “We are pleading with the public: if you saw something, say something. Help us bring closure and accountability.”

A Community Mourns

News of the incident spread quickly across the city, sending shockwaves through the North St. Louis community and beyond. Vigils and memorials are already being discussed by neighbors and community groups looking for a way to honor Jordan’s life and support the grieving family.

“He was just a little boy,” said one local resident, visibly emotional. “No child should ever have to die like this. No family should ever have to bury their child because of someone’s temper and a gun.”

Jordan Neal is being remembered by loved ones as a bright, curious, and gentle-hearted child who loved playing outside and had dreams of becoming a firefighter one day. His tragic death leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him.

His brother, Richard, remains in the fight of his life at a local hospital. Family members are asking for prayers and privacy as they navigate this unthinkable trauma.

The Larger Conversation

The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents across the country stemming from road rage, reigniting urgent discussions about gun violence, conflict resolution, and public safety.

Community activists and local leaders have spoken out, demanding more action to protect innocent lives.

“This can’t keep happening. Children are dying in our streets, and we are numb to it,” said one St. Louis youth advocate. “We need to come together, not only to grieve but to demand change—change in how we handle disputes, in how we support mental health, and how we control access to firearms.”

Ongoing Investigation

As police continue to investigate, they stress that every piece of information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, could be crucial in identifying the shooter and bringing justice to the Neal family.

This remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.

Anyone with knowledge of the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is again urged to contact the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department or CrimeStoppers immediately.
