Tammy Lindzy, Beloved Caregiver and Animal Advocate, Passes Away at 58 After Brave Battle with Cancer

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Tammy Lindzy, a beloved daughter, sister, caregiver, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Indianapolis on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, following a valiant battle with cancer. She was 58 years old.

Born November 26, 1966, in Connersville, Indiana, Tammy was the cherished daughter of Garnet “Lou” Alfred and the late Timothy E. Pursifull, Sr. Her early years were spent in the close-knit community of Laurel, where she began building the foundation of compassion and resilience that would come to define her life.

A Life of Giving

Tammy dedicated her life to serving others, both professionally and personally. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), she worked in several nursing homes in the Indianapolis area, where she brought comfort and dignity to those in need. Her patients remembered her not just for her skill and reliability, but for her warm smile, her kind heart, and her ability to connect with everyone on a personal level.

Her care extended far beyond the walls of any facility. Tammy opened her home to foster children, providing them with a safe haven, unconditional love, and a place to heal and grow. She treated every child she welcomed as her own, becoming a steady and loving figure in the lives of many who needed her most.

Tammy also had a deep love for animals and nature. She was known for rescuing and nurturing everything from stray dogs and cats to injured birds and wildlife that wandered near her home. Her garden was a sanctuary not only for her plants, but for the birds and butterflies she adored. She found joy and peace in tending to her garden and traveling to new places when her health allowed.

A Loving Family and Legacy

Tammy’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her devoted mother and stepfather, Garnet “Lou” and Jerry Gray; her sister, Teresa Hunter and her partner Danny Crain; her “bonus” sisters, Crystal, Jennifer, and Jess; and her brothers, Tony Pursifull, Tom Pursifull, and Teddy Pursifull and his partner Kristy Turner. She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.

In addition to her father, Tammy was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy “Tiny” Pursifull, Jr., and an infant sister, Tabitha Pursifull.

Final Farewell

Tammy will be laid to rest during a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Laurel North Cemetery in Laurel, Indiana, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and say their final goodbyes.

The Urban Winkler Funeral Home is honored to assist the Lindzy family with the arrangements during this difficult time. Those wishing to leave a message of condolence or sign the online guestbook are invited to do so by visiting the funeral home’s website.

A Legacy of Love

Though her time was cut short by illness, Tammy Lindzy’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of selfless giving, and the enduring impact of a compassionate heart. She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who carry her memory forward.

In a world often in need of gentleness, Tammy Lindzy was a quiet force of love — a caregiver, a nurturer, and a protector of both people and nature. Her legacy is not only etched in the hearts of her family and friends but in the lives of every soul she touched along the way.
