Beloved Adare Resident and Galway Native Liam MacLoughlin Passes Away at 48 After Courageous Battle with Illness

 

 

 

 

 

Adare, Co. Limerick / Clifden, Co. Galway – May 25, 2025 — The communities of Adare and Clifden are mourning the passing of Liam MacLoughlin, a devoted family man, cherished friend, and respected member of both his native Galway and adopted Limerick communities. Liam died peacefully on Sunday, May 25th, 2025, at the age of 48, following a lengthy illness which he faced with exceptional courage and grace. He was surrounded by his loving family and in the compassionate care of the team at Milford Care Centre Hospice in Limerick.

Liam, originally from the picturesque town of Clifden, Co. Galway, had made a vibrant life in Adare, Co. Limerick, where he became deeply woven into the fabric of the local community. A man known for his kindness, wit, and gentle presence, Liam’s legacy is one of deep love and quiet strength.

He is survived by his beloved wife Judith, and their three treasured sons, Reuben, Ellis, and Beau, who were the light of his life. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, including his heartbroken parents Ciaran and Anne, his brother Ciaran, and sister Mary. Also mourning his loss are his mother-in-law Eithne, brothers-in-law Garry, Colin, and Gareth, and sisters-in-law Jennifer, Sonya, and Melissa, along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Those who knew Liam speak of a man with a sharp intellect and a generous spirit. Whether it was his commitment to his family, his quiet support of neighbors in need, or his deep love for Ireland’s western landscapes, Liam brought passion and humility to everything he did. He was admired for his grounded nature, always placing his family and loved ones at the center of his life.

Liam’s Requiem Mass will be held at the Holy Trinity Abbey Church in Adare on Wednesday, May 28th at 2 p.m., following a public repose at the same church on Tuesday, May 27th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His funeral will be followed by a private cremation. For those unable to attend in person, the Mass will be live-streamed to allow Liam’s extended community to join in honoring his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family has kindly requested that donations be made to Milford Care Centre, whose staff provided Liam and his loved ones with immense comfort and care during his final days.

As friends and family gather to celebrate his life, Liam MacLoughlin will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. His loss is deeply felt, but his memory will remain forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
