Troy Christian Mourns the Passing of Founder Dr. Gary Wilber, Whose 45-Year Legacy of Faith, Education, and Servant Leadership Transformed Generations
TROY, OH – With profound sadness and deep reverence, the Troy Christian Schools community announces the passing of Dr. Gary Wilber—Founder, President, and former Superintendent of Troy Christian Schools. Dr. Wilber departed this life leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, leadership, and service that spanned more than four decades.
In 1980, Dr. Wilber answered a divine call that would change the educational landscape of Troy, Ohio, forever. Emboldened by his unwavering faith and vision, he established Troy Christian Schools with the hope of offering a Christ-centered education that would equip students not just academically, but spiritually and morally. What began as a small endeavor soon grew into a thriving institution under his guidance, now impacting thousands of students and families across generations.
For 45 years, Dr. Wilber faithfully led with integrity, humility, and a servant’s heart. He was more than an administrator—he was a shepherd, mentor, and spiritual father to many. He believed in the power of Christian education to shape lives, and he poured himself into ensuring every student had the opportunity to learn in an environment grounded in truth, grace, and excellence. His leadership was marked not by accolades or titles, but by the countless lives he touched, the prayers he lifted, and the legacy he built through intentional, gospel-centered education.
Colleagues, alumni, and students alike remember Dr. Wilber not only for his visionary leadership, but for his personal warmth and genuine care for others. He was often seen walking the halls, encouraging teachers, praying with students, and speaking words of wisdom in moments both big and small. And perhaps one of the most enduring memories shared by those who knew him was his signature farewell—he always ended conversations with one word: “Grateful.”
That simple word now echoes throughout the hearts of the community he so dearly loved. Grateful—for his wisdom. Grateful—for his steadfast faith. Grateful—for the schools he built and the lives he helped shape. Grateful—for the man who walked humbly with God and served others selflessly.
To honor his life and legacy, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 5, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at the Arbogast Performing Arts Center. Following the service, there will be an opportunity for the community to greet and offer condolences to the Wilber family.
In this time of mourning, the Troy Christian Schools family invites everyone to join them in lifting up the Wilber family in prayer. Their loss is shared by a broad community of friends, educators, students, and faith leaders who stand in gratitude for the life and work of a man whose legacy will live on in the hearts of many.
Dr. Gary Wilber’s life was a testament to the power of obedience, faith, and love—and though he is no longer with us, his impact remains eternal.
Grateful. Always.
