Tragedy on Morrison Bluff Bridge: 20-Year-Old Mackenzie Arthur and Young Passenger Killed in Devastating Rear-End Collision in Logan County

LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. – A devastating multi-vehicle collision on the Morrison Bluff Bridge has left two individuals dead and a community mourning, according to a preliminary report released by the Arkansas State Police. The fatal crash occurred over the weekend on the bridge that spans the Arkansas River, serving as a vital connection point in Logan County.

Authorities say 20-year-old Mackenzie Arthur was behind the wheel of a 2010 Toyota, traveling southbound on the bridge with a minor passenger in the vehicle. Both were heading toward the southern end of the Morrison Bluff Bridge, a stretch of road that has previously raised concerns for limited visibility and narrow shoulders.

Following directly behind Arthur’s Toyota was a 2011 Chevrolet, also traveling southbound. The Arkansas State Police investigation reveals that the driver of the Chevrolet failed to maintain a safe following distance, resulting in a violent rear-end collision.

The impact of the crash sent Arthur’s vehicle into a dangerous trajectory. According to first responders on the scene, the force of the collision caused the Toyota to spin and sustain catastrophic damage. The severity of the crash left both Mackenzie Arthur and the minor passenger fatally injured, despite life-saving efforts from emergency medical personnel who arrived shortly after the accident was reported.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity and condition of the Chevrolet driver have not yet been disclosed, and it is unclear whether that driver sustained injuries. Officials have stated that no charges have been filed at this time, though the investigation remains active and ongoing. Toxicology results are pending, and investigators are working to reconstruct the moments leading up to the deadly crash.

The Arkansas State Police and local law enforcement agencies closed the Morrison Bluff Bridge for several hours Sunday to investigate and clear the scene. Traffic was rerouted as accident reconstruction experts worked to document evidence and determine contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, and driver behavior.

Local residents expressed shock and sadness at the news, particularly given the young age of the victims.

“This is heartbreaking. That bridge is always busy and dangerous, but no one expects something like this,” said one Morrison Bluff resident. “We’re praying for the families.”

Mackenzie Arthur, whose name was released by authorities shortly after family notification, is remembered by friends and loved ones as a vibrant and caring young woman. Social media tributes began pouring in as news of the tragedy spread.

“She had a beautiful heart and a bright future ahead of her,” one friend wrote on Facebook. “This world lost two precious souls way too soon.”

The community has begun organizing memorial efforts for the victims, including a candlelight vigil near the riverbank and an online fundraiser to assist the families with funeral expenses.

The Morrison Bluff Bridge, which serves as a key route for local commuters and commercial traffic, has previously been the subject of community concern. In light of this incident, local officials say they will be reviewing safety measures on the bridge, including signage, lighting, and speed limit enforcement.

“We want to extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy,” said a spokesperson for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. “We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and exploring any measures that can prevent such a loss in the future.”

As the investigation continues, the Arkansas State Police urge any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the crash to come forward.

Further details will be released as they become available.
