Marcus Allen Injured in Crash at Boggs Lane and Eastern Bypass: Richmond Man Hospitalized After Afternoon Collision
RICHMOND, KY — June 9, 2025 — A devastating crash at one of Richmond’s busiest intersections left 29-year-old Marcus Allen hospitalized Monday evening, casting a shadow over the start of the week for many local residents and prompting renewed calls for traffic safety reforms.
The collision occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Boggs Lane and Eastern Bypass, a high-traffic area known for frequent congestion and close calls. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash that brought traffic to a standstill in all directions. Emergency responders rushed to the scene within minutes, finding two heavily damaged vehicles and a driver in urgent need of medical care.
Marcus Allen, a Richmond native, was identified as the driver of a white Toyota sedan that was struck on the driver’s side by an SUV while attempting to proceed through the intersection. First responders from the Richmond Fire Department and Madison County EMS worked swiftly to stabilize him at the scene before transporting him to Baptist Health Richmond with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.
Photos and videos shared by bystanders show the wreckage strewn across the roadway, with airbags deployed, shattered glass, and fluid leaks posing additional hazards for responders. Traffic on Eastern Bypass was diverted for nearly two hours while crews worked to investigate, clean up, and reopen the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the SUV involved — a dark-colored vehicle driven by an individual who has not yet been publicly named — may have failed to yield when making a turn across oncoming traffic. The driver remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating with investigators. No citations have been issued as of Tuesday morning.
“This was one of the worst crashes I’ve witnessed,” said Carla Jennings, who was walking near the intersection when the accident happened. “It was loud, violent, and so many people stopped their cars and ran over to help. It’s terrifying to see something like that in person.”
The intersection of Boggs Lane and Eastern Bypass has long been considered a dangerous spot by locals. Surrounded by fast food restaurants, gas stations, and retail centers, it’s a hub of both commercial and commuter traffic — and has been the site of multiple accidents in recent years.
“This tragedy should be a wake-up call,” said John McFarland, owner of a nearby auto shop. “There have been too many close calls here. We need longer lights, clearer signs, and enforcement before someone loses their life.”
As of Tuesday morning, Marcus Allen remains in the hospital but is expected to recover. His family, grateful for the community’s outpouring of concern, is asking for privacy as he heals. “We’re lucky he’s alive,” said his sister, Danielle Allen. “We’re just taking things one day at a time.”
The Richmond Police Department is continuing its investigation and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses. They ask that any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage contact their traffic division at (859) 623-1162.
