Gone Too Soon: Community Mourns the Heartbreaking Loss of 16-Year-Old Chasity Stavenhagen in Tragic Car Accident
EARLVILLE, IL — The tight-knit communities of Sandwich, Earlville, and Ottawa, Illinois are in deep mourning following the sudden and tragic passing of 16-year-old Chasity Stavenhagen. Born on September 9, 2008, in Sandwich, Chasity’s vibrant life was cut short far too soon on June 9, 2025, as a result of a devastating auto accident. Her untimely death has left a gaping void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Chasity, a junior at Earlville High School, was the embodiment of spirit, drive, and kindness. Known for her academic dedication, she consistently excelled in her coursework while balancing a full schedule of extracurricular involvement. She was a proud member of the high school band, where her love for music resonated through every performance. She also ran track and played softball, showing strength, determination, and unwavering team spirit both on and off the field.
Outside of school, Chasity explored her creative side through photography and gaming, passions she often shared with her friends and family. Whether capturing life’s fleeting moments with her camera or diving into digital adventures, she found ways to express herself and connect with those around her. Her presence, both online and in real life, was characterized by humor, warmth, and a unique ability to lift others up.
Chasity also demonstrated maturity and responsibility beyond her years through her job at Blain’s Farm & Fleet in Ottawa, where she worked in the e-commerce department. Known for her punctuality, attention to detail, and friendly demeanor, she earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike. Her contribution to the workplace was much more than professional—it was personal, as she touched the lives of many with her positivity and drive.
But perhaps where Chasity shone brightest was in her relationships. Family was at the core of her world. She is survived by her loving parents, Brian and Lisa Stavenhagen, and her devoted sisters, Crystal and Cristy Cooper, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Chasity found joy and purpose in her role as an aunt to Kayleeann, Hunter, Semblance, Emery, and Ethan, who adored her deeply.
She also shared a special closeness with her paternal grandmother, Betty Stavenhagen, and her maternal grandfather, Jerry Hill—figures of guidance and strength in her life. Her memory will also be lovingly preserved by numerous uncles, cousins, and friends, especially Breana, her best friend and confidante, who stood by her side through life’s many adventures.
Chasity now joins her paternal grandfather, Bruce Stavenhagen, and maternal grandmother, Janice Hoyle, in eternity—reunited with those who went before her.
Her passing leaves a painful void not only in her family, but also in the hearts of her classmates, coworkers, teachers, and community members who were fortunate enough to know her. Whether she was participating in a school event, helping a customer at work, snapping a candid photo, or simply being a supportive friend, Chasity left a trail of kindness and light everywhere she went.
As we come to terms with this heartbreaking loss, we also pause to celebrate a life that, though brief, was impactful beyond measure. Chasity’s legacy is one of love, resilience, creativity, and an unwavering zest for life. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her.
