Tragic Fiery Collision Near Laytonsville Sends Two to Hospital and Shuts Down Roads in Gaithersburg Friday Night

Gaithersburg, MD — June 13, 2025 — A fiery collision disrupted Friday night traffic at the intersection of Brink Road and Woodfield Road in Gaithersburg, near Laytonsville, prompting a swift response from emergency crews and temporarily shutting down part of the roadway.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), the crash occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. and involved two vehicles. In the immediate aftermath of the collision, one of the vehicles erupted into flames, drawing a heavy response from local firefighters and rescue personnel. Pete Piringer, Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, confirmed the fire and subsequent actions taken by emergency teams.

“One of the vehicles caught fire following the impact, and our crews responded quickly to extinguish the flames and secure the scene,” said Piringer in a public update.

Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, officials confirmed that both adult occupants involved in the incident were transported by MCFRS Emergency Medical and Integrated Health Services (EMIHS) and were reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not yet been released, and it remains unclear what led to the crash.

In addition to the fire, one of the vehicles left the roadway and struck a nearby tree—described as being approximately one foot in diameter and twenty feet tall. The impact of the crash and resulting debris from the tree caused a partial road blockage.

County road maintenance crews were immediately notified and responded to the area to assist in clearing the damaged tree and reopening the roadway. As of late Friday night, some lanes remained closed, and motorists were urged to avoid the area or seek alternate routes while the cleanup continued.

The intersection of Brink and Woodfield Roads is a frequently traveled corridor for both local residents and commuters heading between Gaithersburg and Laytonsville. Local officials noted that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, impaired driving, or weather conditions played a role.

The Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has not yet released an official statement, and further details are expected in the coming days.

As crews continue working to fully restore traffic flow, authorities urge drivers to remain cautious in the area and to slow down near work zones and accident scenes.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
