43-Year-Old Jerrod Sherone Moore Arrested After Threatening Deadly Shooting in Downtown Lincolnton, Prompting Citywide Lockdown
LINCOLNTON, N.C. — June 17, 2025 — A potential tragedy was narrowly avoided today in Linco after law enforcement swiftly arrested Jerrod Sherone Moore, 43, of Iron Station, who threatened to carry out a deadly shooting in downtown Lincolnton.
The alarming incident began early Tuesday morning when Moore reportedly fired several rounds into the ground near the Lincoln County Courthouse on Sycamore Street. Moments later, he made a chilling call to a local news outlet declaring his intent to “shoot people” in the downtown area.
Reacting immediately, Lincolnton police, in coordination with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, initiated a citywide lockdown that included downtown businesses, city offices, and local schools conducting summer programs. Streets were barricaded, and residents were urged to shelter in place as officers conducted a thorough search for the suspect.
After hours of heightened tension and precaution, Moore was located and peacefully taken into custody without further incident on Ironton Place in Iron Station. Authorities recovered a firearm from the vehicle he was occupying.
Moore now faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm within city limits, and going armed to terrorize the public. His bond has been set at $250,000 as the investigation continues.
Lincolnton Police Chief Brian Greene praised the rapid and coordinated response of law enforcement agencies and expressed gratitude toward the community for their cooperation and calm throughout the ordeal.
“This could have been a devastating day for our city,” Chief Greene said. “Thanks to quick action and community support, we prevented a tragedy.”
Downtown business owner Carol Lee Self reflected on the shock felt by many in the usually peaceful town: “We never expected something like this here. I’m just thankful the police were so fast and no one was hurt.”
By early afternoon, the lockdown was lifted, and normal activity resumed. Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
