Intense Search Underway for 12-Year-Old Missing After Tragic Accident on Neosho River Train Bridge in Southeast Kansas
ERIE, Kan. — June 19, 2025 — A somber search effort continues along the Neosho River near Erie, Kansas, as crews work tirelessly to locate the body of 12-year-old Kollin Showwalter, who went missing after a tragic accident on a train trestle bridge Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), the incident occurred south of Erie on a trestle bridge that spans the Neosho River, a well-known yet dangerous structure used by trains. Authorities report that Kollin Showwalter, age 12, of Erie, and his 16-year-old friend, Arthur Pollries of Walnut, Kansas, were running on the narrow train bridge when they were struck by an oncoming train.
Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Pollries was found injured but alive, and he was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Showwalter, however, was not located at the scene and is presumed to have fallen into the Neosho River below during the incident.
