Orem Mourns the Loss of Bright Light Makiya Jayne Farley, Who Battled with Courage and Grace
Orem, Utah — June 19, 2025 — The community mourns the loss of a truly remarkable young woman, Makiya Jayne Farley, who passed away on June 11, 2025, after a brave and long-fought battle with health challenges. Though her life was far too brief, lasting just 21 years, Makiya’s strength, grace, and unyielding spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her.
Born on April 19, 2004, in Orem, Makiya was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who cherished the bonds she shared with her family and close-knit circle of friends. Her life, deeply rooted in the Utah community, was characterized by warmth, laughter, and a fierce devotion to those she loved. Family meant everything to Makiya — she was often found in the company of her siblings Justin, Lexi, and Taylar, as well as a large and loving extended family that included cousins she adored playfully teasing.
In 2021, Makiya embraced a new and joyful role as Aunt Ky Ky to her nephew Blake, who quickly became the center of her universe. The special connection they shared brought Makiya immense happiness and a renewed sense of purpose during some of her most challenging times.
Despite the obstacles she faced throughout her young life, Makiya was a determined and gifted learner. She graduated from high school with honors, a testament to her perseverance and dedication. Her graduation was a cause for celebration among family and friends, who admired her for wearing this accomplishment with pride and joy.
Makiya was a warrior in every sense of the word — courageous, resilient, and full of heart. Her compassion extended beyond her own struggles, as she devoted herself to working with special needs clients. Her kindness, patience, and infectious sense of humor brought light and joy into the lives of those she cared for. Makiya’s work was more than a job; it was a calling that reflected her deep desire to help others and make a meaningful difference in the world.
A devoted fur mama, Makiya found solace and unconditional love in her pets—Snoop, Dre, Eminem, and Giz—who stood faithfully by her side through life’s ups and downs. These beloved companions brought comfort, joy, and moments of levity even during her toughest days.
Makiya leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. She is survived by her parents Jayme (Paul) Fox and Matthew (Kenzie) Casper; her siblings Justin (Dasha), Lexi, and Taylar; her cherished nephew Blake; and her grandparents Larry and Jayne Farley, Parry and Diane Casper, and Shawn and Annette Fox. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins also mourn the loss of a cherished soul. She was preceded in death by her dear Aunt Heather, whose memory lives on alongside Makiya’s.
The Farley family and friends will gather to celebrate Makiya’s life and legacy on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Provo, located at 85 East 300 South, Provo. The family will receive visitors on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. before the service. Interment will take place at Provo City Cemetery.
