Two Southgate Police Officers Shot in Ambush at Village on the Park Apartments — One Suspect in Custody, Manhunt Continues
SOUTHGATE, Mich. — On June 19, 2025, two Southgate police officers were shot during a violent incident at the Village on the Park apartments, located at 13375 Village Park Drive near Northline Road, just east of Interstate 75.
The officers were responding to a call at the apartment complex when they were ambushed and shot. Both were rushed to a hospital in Dearborn for emergency medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released their names or provided updates on their medical conditions.
One suspect linked to the shooting has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. However, a second suspect remains at large, prompting an ongoing manhunt by Southgate police in collaboration with neighboring agencies. Law enforcement officials have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
In response to the shooting, the City of Southgate issued a Code Red alert notifying residents near Northline and Devoe roads to exercise caution and avoid the vicinity while police continue their search and investigation.
Southgate Police Chief Mark Mydlarz addressed the community, expressing deep concern for the wounded officers and their families. Chief Mydlarz, who has led the department since January 2021 and guided it through accreditation by the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, said, “This attack on our officers is deeply troubling and underscores the risks our men and women in uniform face every day. We are committed to supporting our officers and ensuring the safety of our community.”
The shooting has deeply shaken the Southgate community, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by law enforcement officers on duty.
