North Charleston Man Moamen Hassan Arrested After Threatening Apartment Residents with Weapon

 

 

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A frightening incident unfolded Thursday evening at the Waverly Place Apartments when 22-year-old Moamen Hassan of North Charleston allegedly threatened the lives of multiple residents by brandishing a weapon.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to numerous 911 calls around 5:30 p.m. reporting a man had pulled a weapon out of a backpack and threatened to kill people living in the apartment complex located on the 1900 block of Waverly Place Lane.

Upon arrival, deputies teamed up with the North Charleston Police Department to secure the area and began searching for Hassan. Initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful. However, dispatch soon received reports that Hassan was seen jumping a fence and heading toward the Bosch Charleston Plant on Dorchester Road.

Using this tip, deputies quickly converged on the area and took Hassan into custody without further incident.

Law enforcement later recovered the backpack and weapon linked to the threats during a thorough search.

Hassan now faces serious charges, including first-degree assault and battery and pointing and presenting a weapon at a person. He was booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center, where he remains held pending further legal action.

Residents of Waverly Place Apartments expressed relief following Hassan’s arrest, praising law enforcement for their swift response that likely prevented the situation from escalating.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and urge anyone with additional information to come forward.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety within residential communities and the critical role of quick law enforcement intervention in protecting residents.
