Tragic Drowning at West Boggs Lake: 33-Year-Old Mitchell L. Worland of Washington Found Dead After Saturday Night Search

 

 

DAVIESS COUNTY, IND. — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal drowning incident at West Boggs Lake that claimed the life of 33-year-old Mitchell L. Worland of Washington, Indiana. The tragic event occurred on Saturday evening, June 21, 2025, prompting a coordinated search and rescue operation.

Just before 7 p.m., emergency responders were alerted after reports surfaced that a man had gone underwater and failed to resurface while swimming or participating in water activities at the scenic West Boggs Lake. The lake, known for its popularity among fishing, boating, and swimming enthusiasts, is located in Daviess County in southern Indiana.

Upon receiving the call, Indiana Conservation Officers quickly arrived at the scene alongside multiple agencies, including the Cannelburg and Montgomery Fire Departments, Cannelburg EMS, and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. Due to the urgency of the situation, specialized dive teams were deployed to conduct a thorough underwater search.

After nearly two and a half hours of intensive search efforts, the victim’s body was recovered at approximately 9:25 p.m. The identity of the victim was confirmed as Mitchell L. Worland, a resident of Washington, Indiana.

Officials have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the circumstances leading to the drowning. An investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine any contributing factors, including whether alcohol use, medical conditions, or other variables played a role in the incident.

West Boggs Lake is a cherished recreational area attracting visitors for its natural beauty and a wide range of outdoor activities.
