Tragic Electrocution Claims Life of Larry Nassmer in South St. Louis During Attempted Break-In

 

 

 

 ST .LOUIS — The St. Louis community is mourning the sudden and tragic death of Larry Nassmer, who was electrocuted early Monday morning while attempting to break into a high-voltage electrical unit near Carondelet Park in South St. Louis.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on June 23, 2025, in the 3900 block of Holly Hills Boulevard, close to the intersection of Interstate 55 and Loughborough Avenue. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Nassmer unlawfully accessed multiple secured doors protecting the electrical equipment enclosure. Upon opening the third door and making contact with a live electrical wire, he was instantly electrocuted and died at the scene.

Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading to Nassmer’s actions, nor have they disclosed any additional information about his background.

The St. Louis Police Department’s Electrical Safety Unit, alongside fire officials and utility company representatives, responded promptly to the scene and have launched a full investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest the death was accidental but occurred during the course of an attempted break-in.

Sgt. Lorraine Hughes of SLMPD urged the public to avoid approaching or tampering with electrical infrastructure, emphasizing the severe danger such equipment poses. “High-voltage electrical units are deadly, and this tragedy underscores the importance of respecting utility safety measures,” she stated.

Neighbors expressed their shock and sadness following the incident. “It’s a heartbreaking reminder of how dangerous these areas can be,” said local resident Marsha Lee. “We hope this tragedy will raise awareness and prevent future incidents.”

Utility companies confirmed that security measures around electrical units in the area are regularly maintained and that they continue to work with law enforcement to enhance safety.

The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as Larry Nassmer. His family has been notified and is receiving support from victim services.
