Crash on Corpus Christi’s SPID Freeway Leaves Two Injured and Roadway Temporarily Closed — Authorities Urge Caution

A two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on the State Highway 358 frontage road, commonly known as SPID, left two people hospitalized and temporarily disrupted traffic in the area, according to Corpus Christi Police.

The Crash

Authorities say the collision occurred around 1:40 a.m. in the 600 block of SPID, near the intersection with Grand Boulevard. Emergency responders arrived on scene to find two vehicles with significant damage and occupants needing medical attention.

Two individuals were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed. Their identities and current conditions have not been released.

Emergency Response

Police, firefighters, and EMS crews responded promptly to the scene. While traffic volume was low due to the early hour, parts of the roadway were closed temporarily to allow for cleanup and investigation, causing brief delays for passing motorists.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not indicated whether speed, impairment, or weather played a role in the accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene for further inspection.

“We’re thankful that the injuries were not more severe, but this serves as a reminder that crashes can happen at any time of day,” a spokesperson for the Corpus Christi Police Department said.
