Jennifer Martinez Fatally Stabbed by Son in Shocking Ogden Domestic Violence Tragedy

OGDEN, Utah — June 24, 2025 — A heart-wrenching act of domestic violence has left the Ogden community in mourning after 48-year-old Jennifer Martinez was fatally stabbed in her home Thursday afternoon, allegedly by her own son. The disturbing incident unfolded in a quiet residential neighborhood and has sent shockwaves through friends, neighbors, and local leaders.

According to the Ogden Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence around 1:30 p.m. following a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they discovered Jennifer Martinez suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency crews performed life-saving efforts and rushed her to a local hospital, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Her son, 25-year-old Alec Conrad Martinez, was at the scene when officers arrived. He was immediately taken into custody without resistance and is currently being held in the Weber County Jail. Authorities have confirmed that he will face multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, pending a full investigation.

“This was a senseless act of violence that has torn apart a family and left our community shaken,” said Ogden Police Chief Eric Young. “Jennifer Martinez was a mother, a neighbor, and a valued member of this city. Our hearts go out to her loved ones.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Detectives are working to determine what led to the attack, reviewing any available surveillance footage and conducting interviews with family, neighbors, and acquaintances. It is not yet known whether there were previous domestic violence reports involving Alec Martinez, but officials have confirmed that they are reviewing his history and background, including any potential mental health concerns.

Jennifer Martinez was described by friends and neighbors as warm, kind, and deeply devoted to her family. She had worked in the local service industry and had been active in her church community. Those who knew her say she had a generous heart and was always willing to help others.

“She didn’t deserve this,” said one tearful neighbor. “Jennifer was one of the most genuine people I knew. It’s devastating to lose her like this — especially at the hands of someone she loved and raised.”

Alec Martinez is expected to make his first court appearance in the coming days. Prosecutors have indicated they will seek the maximum possible charges under Utah law.

The tragedy has reignited conversations around the importance of addressing domestic violence and mental health issues early — particularly within families. Advocacy groups, including the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition, are urging community members to remain vigilant and report warning signs before they escalate.

“This tragedy underscores the urgent need for intervention and support for families in crisis,” the coalition said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the Martinez family and all who are grieving this terrible loss.”

In memory of Jennifer, community members are organizing a candlelight vigil to be held this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Ogden City Amphitheater. All are welcome to attend and honor her life.
