Tragedy in Anaheim: Beloved Security Guard Salvador Ramirez Fatally Shot While Protecting Bar Patrons
Anaheim, CA — June 22, 2025
The city of Anaheim is mourning the loss of 48-year-old Salvador Ramirez, a well-respected and dedicated security guard who was shot and killed in the line of duty outside a local bar late Saturday night. The shooting occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. on June 22, 2025, outside 99 Bottles & Cocktails, a popular nightlife spot located at 8901 Katella Avenue.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, Ramirez was working his usual shift, stationed at the front of the establishment, when an altercation broke out involving several patrons. Witnesses say Salvador had been de-escalating a verbal dispute when one of the individuals involved suddenly pulled a firearm and opened fire.
Emergency responders arrived quickly on the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but Ramirez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly afterward. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
A Life of Dedication and Service
Salvador Ramirez was more than just a security guard — he was known as a kind, protective presence in the community. For over two decades, he worked in private security throughout Orange County and was well-regarded for his ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. Co-workers and patrons alike described him as someone who took pride in his job and treated everyone with respect and fairness.
“Sal was a protector in every sense,” said Marco Hernandez, a bartender at 99 Bottles & Cocktails. “He was the first to show up and the last to leave. He knew most of our regulars by name and always had our backs.”
Ramirez leaves behind his wife, two adult children, and countless friends, colleagues, and community members who are devastated by his loss.
Investigation Underway
Anaheim detectives are actively investigating the case and are reviewing surveillance footage from the bar and surrounding businesses. As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made, but authorities have identified a person of interest and are asking for the public’s help.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans, last seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored sedan headed east on Katella Avenue.
The Anaheim Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Orange County Crime Stoppers.
Community Outpouring
The Anaheim community has rallied in the wake of the tragedy. A memorial of candles, flowers, and handwritten messages now stands outside the entrance of the bar where Ramirez took his final stand. An outpouring of love has flooded social media, with posts celebrating his life and condemning the senseless act that took it.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by friends of the Ramirez family to assist with funeral costs and to support his loved ones during this difficult time. Within just hours, donations began pouring in from coworkers, patrons, and community members across the city.
Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken issued a statement Sunday evening:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Salvador Ramirez, a man who gave his life ensuring the safety of others. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and pledge our full support to law enforcement in their pursuit of justice.”
A Community in Mourning
As Anaheim grapples with yet another act of gun violence, residents are left asking why such tragedies continue to occur — and how to prevent more lives from being lost.
Salvador Ramirez’s death is more than just a news headline. It is the story of a man who gave his life for others, a protector who stood between danger and safety, and a reminder that real heroes walk among us, quietly doing the work that keeps our communities safe.
Funeral arrangements are currently being planned, and a public vigil is expected to be held later this week to honor Ramirez’s life and legacy.
