Wake County Tragedy: River, Jet, and Shannon Collins Shot Dead Before House Fire — Triple Homicide and Arson Under Investigation
GARNER, NC – June 25, 2025
What began as a routine call to a house fire on Rand Road has turned into a deeply disturbing triple homicide investigation. Authorities have confirmed that Shannon Collins, along with his two sons — 15-year-old River Collins and 13-year-old Jet Collins — were all fatally shot before their home was set on fire. The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is treating the case as both a homicide and arson.
Firefighters and deputies responded to the scene early Thursday morning. Upon extinguishing the blaze, three bodies were discovered inside the residence. Medical examiners later determined that all three victims had sustained gunshot wounds prior to the fire.
“This was not a tragic accident. This was a calculated act of violence,” said Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker. “We will not rest until justice is served for this family.”
A Family Remembered
The victims have been identified as:
- River Collins, 15 – A high school student and local lifeguard known for his maturity, leadership, and dedication to serving the community.
- Jet Collins, 13 – River’s younger brother, remembered as energetic, bright, and full of life. He was preparing to enter the 8th grade.
- Shannon Collins – A devoted father who raised his sons with love and responsibility. Friends describe him as hardworking, humble, and deeply committed to his family.
“This is more than just tragic. It’s senseless and heartbreaking,” said a family friend. “Shannon loved his boys. River had so much ahead of him, and Jet brought joy to everyone who knew him.”
Fire Set to Conceal Crime
Investigators believe the fire was deliberately set in an attempt to destroy evidence of the killings. Detectives, forensic specialists, and fire investigators are working together to reconstruct the events of that morning. They are also analyzing any surveillance footage from surrounding homes and digital evidence found at the scene.
No suspects or persons of interest have been named at this time.
“We are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Rand Road that morning to come forward,” Sheriff Baker said. “Even the smallest detail could help us find the person or people responsible.”
Community in Mourning
In the wake of this tragedy, the Garner and Wake County community is rallying together. A growing memorial of flowers, candles, and hand-written messages has formed near the charred remains of the Collins home. Friends and neighbors are planning a candlelight vigil to honor the lives of River, Jet, and Shannon.
“This has shaken all of us,” said a neighbor. “They were a good family. They didn’t deserve this.”
