MILWAUKEE, WI — June 27, 2025 — A routine day turned into a harrowing night for Milwaukee police officer Kendall Corder, 32, who remains in critical condition after being shot while bravely protecting his community. Late Thursday night, Corder and his partner were responding to a call reporting a man with a weapon near 25th and Garfield when they were ambushed by gunfire in a nearby alley.

According to Milwaukee Police Department officials, the officers arrived on the scene around 9:30 p.m. and were immediately met with a barrage of gunshots before they had a chance to react. The sudden attack has left the city shaken and the department deeply concerned for the well-being of one of their own.

Officer Corder was rushed to Froedtert Hospital, where doctors are currently working tirelessly to stabilize him. His condition remains critical, and family, friends, and colleagues are holding onto hope for his recovery.

“Officer Corder went to work like any other day, committed to serving and protecting our community. We are devastated by what happened but remain hopeful for his strength and resilience,” said Milwaukee Police Chief Maria Henderson.

The attack also injured Corder’s partner, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is now in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tremaine Jones, was arrested shortly after the shooting. Jones has a prior criminal history, including a 2021 Deferred Prosecution Agreement related to charges of riding in a stolen car and resisting police. His case was fully dismissed just two months ago.

This violent incident highlights the daily risks faced by law enforcement officers in Milwaukee and underscores the importance of community support and cooperation during ongoing investigations.

Local leaders and residents have rallied around Officer Corder and his family, calling for prayers and positive thoughts as the officer battles for his life.

“We ask the public to keep Officer Corder and his partner in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time,” said Chief Henderson. “Their courage and sacrifice remind us all of the dangers our officers face every day to keep us safe.”

Investigations continue as police work to piece together the details surrounding the ambush, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
