Northport Man John Norman John Dies After Medical Emergency Leads to Crash in Bingham Township
BINGHAM TOWNSHIP, MI — June 30, 2025
A 57-year-old Northport man, John Norman John, tragically died Sunday morning after suffering a medical emergency that led to a single-vehicle crash in Bingham Township, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. on June 29, when deputies from the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to S. Lake Leelanau Drive near Otto Road following reports of a vehicle off the roadway.
Upon arrival, deputies and emergency crews found the vehicle had left the road in what appeared to be a minor crash. However, the situation quickly turned serious when responders discovered the driver, John Norman John, unresponsive.
Despite rapid response and lifesaving efforts, Mr. John was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Initial findings indicate that Mr. John’s death was the result of a medical incident suffered just before the vehicle left the roadway,” the sheriff’s office stated. Investigators have ruled out alcohol and speed as contributing factors in the crash.
The Suttons Bay / Bingham Fire and Rescue Department provided on-scene assistance, helping manage the situation and support emergency operations.
Authorities noted that the vehicle did not strike any other objects, and no other individuals were involved or injured.
The incident remains under investigation, and the Leelanau County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Mr. John, a longtime resident of Northport, was known for his quiet demeanor and strong community presence. News of his passing has left many in the small lakeside town in mourning.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. John during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a public statement.
No further details have been released at this time. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
