Shock in New Orleans’ Marigny Neighborhood: Benjamin J. Camp Arrested for Fatal Shooting and Burial of Girlfriend

 

 

 

NEW ORLEANS, LA — June 30, 2025

A chilling crime has rocked the historic Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans, as 24-year-old Benjamin J. Camp was taken into custody Saturday evening following a disturbing confession. Camp allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend before burying her body in the backyard of a residence on Marigny Street.

New Orleans Police Department responded swiftly to reports around 5:09 p.m., discovering the gruesome scene. Camp reportedly admitted to the killing and cooperated with investigators by revealing the location of the burial site.

The victim’s identity remains withheld, pending family notification, as the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office continues its work. Camp has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently held at the Orleans Justice Center.

“This violent act has left our community shaken and grieving,” said a NOPD spokesperson. “We are committed to uncovering all facts and ensuring justice is served.”

Longtime residents expressed shock and sorrow over the horrific incident. “This is unlike anything we’ve seen in this neighborhood before,” said Marcus Dupree, a local resident. “Our hearts go out to the family.”
