HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, OH — June 30, 2025
A devastating plane crash in northeast Ohio has claimed the lives of all six people aboard a twin-engine aircraft that went down early Sunday morning just minutes after takeoff. The crash occurred in a remote, wooded area of Howland Township, less than 10 miles from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

Officials confirmed at a 5 p.m. press conference Sunday that two crew members and four passengers were killed. The names of the victims have not yet been publicly released pending family notification.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are now leading the inquiry into what went wrong.

7 Minutes Into Flight, Tragedy Strikes

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the aircraft departed from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport at approximately 7:00 a.m. on June 29 and crashed roughly seven minutes later near King Graves Road, between Spring Run Road and King Graves Road NE in Howland Township.

The plane came down in a densely forested area, complicating access for emergency crews. A large plume of smoke was visible for miles.

“It just didn’t sound right,” one resident told a Trumbull County 911 dispatcher. “I was sitting outside having coffee and heard the plane. Then there was a huge crash, and now I see a ton of smoke.”

Another 911 caller described hearing “a big bang” that echoed across the area. “I don’t know what it was, but it shook everything,” the caller said.

Multiple callers reported the incident within seconds of the crash, according to 911 records obtained by FOX 8 I-Team, offering chilling firsthand accounts of the impact and immediate aftermath.

Emergency Response and Scene Challenges

First responders arrived swiftly, but the wreckage was found deep in the woods, requiring specialized access. Crews from Trumbull County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and local fire departments worked together to secure the crash site and begin recovery operations.

Authorities quickly confirmed that there were no survivors among the six occupants. The aircraft was reportedly engulfed in flames after impact.

Officials have not yet released the origin or destination of the flight, nor confirmed whether it was a chartered or private aircraft.

Federal Investigation Underway

Investigators from the NTSB and FAA arrived on the scene Sunday afternoon. Their work will involve analyzing the flight path, examining air traffic control communications, recovering any onboard instruments or data recorders, and inspecting the aircraft’s maintenance records.

A preliminary report is expected in the coming days, though a full investigation could take several months to complete.

“There are still many unanswered questions,” one NTSB spokesperson said. “Our teams will conduct a thorough and detailed investigation to determine exactly what led to this tragic event.”

Community Shaken by Sudden Loss

The tragedy has rocked Howland Township and surrounding areas, where aviation incidents are rare. Locals described the horror and confusion in the moments following the crash.

“This is a quiet, peaceful place,” said a resident who lives near the wooded area. “You never expect something like this to happen in your own backyard.”

Community members gathered Sunday evening to light candles and offer prayers for the victims and their families.

Trumbull County officials said grief counselors will be made available for those affected and praised the rapid response of emergency services under difficult circumstances.

Moving Forward

As investigators begin the long process of piecing together the moments that led to the deadly crash, families of the victims are left grieving and awaiting answers. The community has pledged its support to those impacted.

Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact local authorities.

Further updates will be released as the investigation develops.
