AUGUSTA, GA — June 30, 2025
Two 17-year-olds have been arrested following a violent road rage incident on Interstate 20 in Richmond County that left a man and a woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds. One of the victims is reportedly facing paralysis as a result of her injuries.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the arrests of Miranda Myers, of North Augusta, and Cameron Howard, of Augusta. Both teens were taken into custody shortly after the shooting occurred Sunday afternoon on I-20 westbound near mile marker 196.

Authorities say the pair were involved in an unprovoked shooting that took place just before 4:30 p.m., leaving a 20-something couple wounded inside their vehicle. The case has shocked the community and reignited debate about youth violence and gun access among minors.

Victims Found Wounded Inside Bullet-Riddled Vehicle

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire on the interstate and located a gray Toyota Camry stopped along the shoulder of the road. The vehicle had sustained multiple bullet impacts. Inside, officers found a male driver suffering from a gunshot wound to the left ankle, and a female passenger who had been struck in the shoulder.

Both were transported to Doctors Hospital for emergency care. Family members later confirmed that the female victim suffered a collapsed lung, spinal injury, and is now paralyzed from the waist down. As of Monday, both victims were listed in stable condition.

Drive-By Shooting from Tesla on Interstate

According to investigators, the Camry was traveling westbound on I-20 when a blue Tesla pulled up alongside it. Myers was reportedly behind the wheel, while Howard allegedly leaned out of the passenger-side window and opened fire with a handgun—discharging five to six rounds directly into the victims’ car.

Following the shooting, the Tesla exited the highway at Exit 194 in Columbia County. A responding deputy later located the vehicle parked on Banbury Way in Grovetown, where Myers was detained. Howard fled the scene on foot but was captured shortly afterward following a brief manhunt.

Charges Filed, Criminal History Emerges

Miranda Myers and Cameron Howard have each been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Additionally, Howard faces a third charge for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Both are currently being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta.

This is not Howard’s first encounter with the criminal justice system. Records show he was arrested in April on a misdemeanor battery charge following a domestic violence incident involving his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend. According to investigators, Howard assaulted the girl at her home on West Creek Mill Court, striking her in the temple and leaving a visible welt. That case remains pending.

Myers, by contrast, has no known prior criminal history. However, she drew public attention in April when she appeared in prom photographs posing beside a blue Tesla—the same vehicle allegedly used in Sunday’s shooting. The images, captured by Savannah Zaveri Photography and shared publicly on Facebook, have since been circulated widely across social media in light of her arrest. The caption on one post described her as “the definition of Prom Perfection.”

While there are unconfirmed reports that the Tesla belongs to a relative of Myers, law enforcement officials have not released ownership details.

Rising Alarm Over Teen Violence

The arrests of Myers and Howard have raised renewed concerns about gun violence involving teenagers and the apparent ease with which minors are able to access firearms.

“This incident is deeply troubling, not only for the violence itself but for what it says about where we are as a society,” said a spokesperson for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. “These were two young people, armed and acting without regard for the lives of others on a public highway.”

Local leaders and youth advocates are calling for enhanced education on conflict resolution and stronger measures to keep weapons out of the hands of juveniles.

Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to examine the events that led up to the shooting and are seeking any additional witnesses who may have seen the incident unfold on the interstate.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or the Tesla exiting the highway to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

“This could have been even more tragic,” one official noted. “It’s by sheer luck that no one else on that highway was caught in the crossfire.”

The victims’ families have requested privacy as they navigate the aftermath of the attack and begin the long road to physical and emotional recovery.
