Tragedy in Cass County: 28-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Deadly Collision with Pickup Truck
CASS COUNTY, INDIANA — July 6, 2025
A devastating accident on a quiet rural road in Cass County turned fatal Saturday afternoon when a motorcycle and a pickup truck collided, leaving one man dead and a community grieving.
Authorities have confirmed that 28-year-old James Dolmanet, a resident of Wabash, Indiana, lost his life in the crash. The incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 500 East and 150 North, an area known for its winding roads and light weekend traffic.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, preliminary findings suggest that Dolmanet was traveling northbound on his motorcycle when a pickup truck heading south attempted to make a left turn, crossing into his path. The two vehicles collided with significant force, throwing Dolmanet from his bike and causing catastrophic injuries.
Emergency responders from Cass County EMS, local fire departments, and Indiana State Police rushed to the scene and immediately began life-saving efforts. Due to the severity of Dolmanet’s injuries, an air ambulance was dispatched. However, despite the rapid response and heroic efforts of paramedics, Dolmanet was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be transported.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. Authorities have not released that driver’s identity, and no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing. Toxicology tests are standard procedure and have been administered as part of the investigation.
“This is a heartbreaking loss of a young life,” said Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder. “Our hearts go out to the family of James Dolmanet. These kinds of accidents serve as a sobering reminder of how quickly things can change on the road, especially involving motorcycles.”
James Dolmanet was remembered by friends and family as a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, a hard worker, and someone who lit up every room he entered. A native of Wabash, he worked locally and was known throughout the area for his friendly demeanor and generous spirit.
“He loved to ride,” said one family friend. “That bike was his pride and joy. This just doesn’t seem real.”
This marks one of several fatal motorcycle accidents in Indiana this summer, prompting local officials to renew calls for caution among both drivers and motorcyclists. Visibility and awareness remain key concerns, particularly at rural intersections and when making turns.
The Cass County Coroner’s Office has taken over the case, and an official cause of death will be determined. Meanwhile, grief counselors have been made available for family members and first responders affected by the tragedy.
A memorial ride is reportedly being organized by friends in Wabash to honor Dolmanet’s memory and raise awareness about motorcycle safety.
As the investigation continues, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.
