Gunfire Erupts on Easton’s South Side — 5 People Shot, Including Woman Struck in the Back

EASTON, PA — July 13, 2025 — The quiet of Easton’s South Side was shattered in the early hours of Sunday morning when a hail of bullets tore through a neighborhood, leaving five people wounded, including a woman shot in the back, in a chilling outbreak of violence that has left the community stunned and searching for answers.

Police say the shooting happened around 12:00 a.m. in the 100 block of E. Wilkes Barre Street, a residential stretch in the Northampton County city’s South Side. Emergency calls began pouring in just after midnight, with reports of multiple gunshots and victims down. Officers from the Easton Police Department responded quickly, arriving to find a chaotic and disturbing scene.

At least two victims were located at the scene. Among them was a female victim who had been shot in the back, police confirmed. She and another injured person were treated by EMS and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

But the violence didn’t stop there.

In the aftermath of the shooting, three more gunshot victims arrived at a local hospital, walking in on their own. Investigators now believe the incident may have involved a larger group and that some of the wounded fled the area before police arrived. Their injuries range from minor to potentially serious, but all are expected to survive as of the latest updates.

“We Heard Screaming and Then Gunshots”

Residents along East Wilkes Barre Street described a terrifying few minutes. One local, who lives just a few houses down from where the shooting occurred, said she was jolted awake by what she initially thought were fireworks. “Then I heard screaming and people yelling ‘she’s been hit!’ — and that’s when I knew it was gunfire,” she said.

Surveillance video from a nearby porch reportedly captured parts of the altercation leading up to the shooting. Investigators are reviewing the footage and canvassing the neighborhood for additional evidence and eyewitness accounts.

Investigation Underway, No Arrests Yet

As of Sunday afternoon, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made. Detectives have not released information about the motive behind the shooting or whether the victims were targeted.

Easton Police said they are working with area hospitals and using local and county-wide surveillance networks to track movements of anyone potentially involved. A crime scene unit spent the morning collecting evidence, marking shell casings, and photographing the scene under floodlights.

“This kind of violence is not what we expect or accept in our community,” said a spokesperson for the Easton Police Department. “We are doing everything possible to identify those responsible and to ensure they are held accountable.”

Community Reacts

In the wake of the shooting, neighbors and city leaders are calling for increased patrols and community engagement. “Gun violence is a disease in this country, and we’re seeing it in neighborhoods that used to be considered safe,” said a local council member. “We need more outreach, more mental health support, and more unity before these streets become war zones.”

Concerned residents have also taken to social media, offering prayers for the victims and calling for justice. “This is heartbreaking. These are our neighbors, our kids. Enough is enough,” one post read.

Some community members have already begun organizing a candlelight vigil for the victims, tentatively scheduled for early this week.
