LEXINGTON, KY — July 13, 2025 — A terrifying and violent day unfolded in Lexington on Sunday as a gunman unleashed chaos across two locations, leaving two women dead, several others wounded—including a Kentucky State Trooper—and the suspect himself fatally shot by police.

The suspect has been identified as Guy House. The rampage began around 11:36 a.m. on Terminal Drive, near Blue Grass Airport, where House allegedly shot a Kentucky State Trooper. Authorities were quick to clarify that the shooting was not connected to airport operations.

The injured trooper was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in stable condition after receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

Following the initial shooting, House carjacked a vehicle in the 3700 block of Belleau Wood Drive. Fortunately, no one was injured during this carjacking. Leveraging resources from the Lexington Police Department’s Real-Time Intelligence Center and Air Support Unit, law enforcement tracked House’s movements as he fled the scene.

Around 12:30 p.m., officers received reports of an active shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church, located in the 5800 block of Old Richmond Road. Upon arriving, officers confronted House, resulting in an officer-involved shooting during which House was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene.

Tragically, two female victims at the church succumbed to their injuries. They have been identified as:

  • Beverly Gumm, 72
  • Kristy McCombs, 32

In addition to the fatalities, two male victims were also shot during the incident and are currently receiving medical treatment at local hospitals. Their names and condition details have not been publicly released.

Lexington Police confirmed that the shootings on Terminal Drive and at Richmond Road Baptist Church are connected and were carried out by the same suspect. The incident at the church is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting, with the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team assisting to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.

In a press conference, a Lexington Police spokesperson urged the community to keep the victims, their families, and the injured trooper in their thoughts and prayers. “We are grateful for the quick and coordinated response of our officers and emergency personnel, which undoubtedly prevented further loss of life,” the spokesperson said.

The violent events have shaken the Lexington community, which is now grappling with grief and disbelief. Community leaders have called for unity and support during this difficult time.

Authorities continue to investigate the motives and circumstances surrounding the shootings and have pledged to provide updates as new information becomes available.
