HORROR IN PITTSBURGH: 10-Month-Old Baby Dies After Vicious Abuse by Mother’s Boyfriend — Community Demands Justice

PITTSBURGH, PA – A devastating tragedy has shaken the Pittsburgh community to its core after a 10-month-old baby boy was declared dead Monday following a brutal incident of alleged abuse inside a family home. The man accused of inflicting the fatal injuries is Dominic Pinnick, the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

What began as a routine afternoon of babysitting on Friday turned into a scene of unthinkable violence and suffering. Police say Pinnick, 22, was alone watching the infant when he grew angry over the baby’s persistent crying. According to investigators, Pinnick admitted that he became enraged and lost control.

His chilling confession revealed that he struck the baby’s head several times against a wooden bedpost. He also admitted to violently rocking the infant and aggressively rubbing the back of his head. When the child suddenly went limp and unresponsive, Pinnick called 911.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported the baby to UPMC Children’s Hospital. Doctors described a nightmarish set of injuries — a fractured skull, widespread bruising, signs of violent shaking, and ongoing seizures. The baby’s brain was swelling at such an alarming rate that neurosurgeons were forced to remove a portion of his skull in a desperate attempt to save his life.

For days, doctors fought to keep the infant alive. But despite their efforts, the baby’s injuries proved too severe. He was pronounced dead on Monday. His name has not been released publicly, out of respect for the family, but officials have confirmed that next of kin have been notified.

The news of the child’s death sent shockwaves throughout the city. A growing memorial now stands outside the home — tiny teddy bears, candles, balloons, and handwritten notes from neighbors who never knew the child but now weep for him.

Dominic Pinnick was arrested shortly after the incident and initially charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Following the child’s death, prosecutors are expected to upgrade those charges to include homicide. In his initial court appearance, a judge denied him bond, citing the severity of the case and the risk that he could flee before trial.

“This is one of the most heartbreaking and disturbing cases we’ve encountered,” said an official close to the investigation. “We are talking about the brutal, senseless death of a helpless baby — and we will ensure justice is served.”

The baby’s mother was not home at the time of the attack. Authorities say she is cooperating fully with the investigation. At this time, she faces no charges.

Child advocates and concerned community members have begun organizing vigils and raising awareness about child abuse. Many are calling for stronger protections for vulnerable children and tougher penalties for abusers.

“This wasn’t just a tragedy,” said a neighbor who left flowers at the memorial. “It was a preventable act of cruelty. That baby never had a voice, but we will be his voice now.”

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office continues to gather evidence, and the medical examiner’s final report is expected in the coming days. As the community grieves, many are united in the hope that the baby’s short life — and tragic death — will not be forgotten, and that justice will be delivered swiftly and fully.
